Air bags help protect the driver and right-front passenger in certain collisions by supplementing the protection provided by safety belts. Dual-stage frontal air bags utilize sensors to help detect the severity of impact and where the seats are. In less severe crashes or when the seats are in the full-forward position, the air bags will deploy at less than full level. The Passenger Sensing System automatically switches the right-front passenger frontal air bag on or off based on the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat. Head-curtain side-impact air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of head and neck injuries to first-row, second- and third-row outboard occupants on the near side of certain side-impact collisions. The antilock brake system (ABS) is designed to help drivers maintain steering control by reducing wheel lockup during hard braking on most slippery or dry surfaces. With the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control, sensors read many inputs and monitor driving and vehicle conditions. When sensors detect the vehicle is not responding appropriately to driver steering input, StabiliTrak engages the brake and powertrain systems to help the driver keep the vehicle on track. Capable of running on either gasoline or E85 (a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline)(1) a mostly renewable US-grown fuel that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Vortec 5300 V8 SFI FlexFuel engine with Active Fuel Management delivers 310 hp at 5400 rpm and 335 lb.-ft. of torque at 4200 rpm. When driving conditions require less power, the Active Fuel Management system temporarily allows the 5.3L V8 engine to shift automatically from eight cylinders to four.
